Vivo V19 Review: Better than Samsung Galaxy A71

Vivo V19 Review: Vivo’s V-series wont to be all about innovation. The V11 Pro brought an in-display fingerprint scanner during a midrange price segment, and therefore the V15 Pro had the pop-up selfie camera. But since then Vivo has been holding back for a few reasons. This year’s Vivo V19 is nothing out of the standard, to be honest. However, there are some things that I prefer about it, and tons of things that I wish Vivo improved within the next iteration of V-series. Without further ado, let’s get into this Vivo V19 Review.

Vivo V19 Review:

  • Glass front, glass back, and plastic frame

The design of Vivo phones don’t usually disappoint and this one shares an equivalent story. It’s a glass back that appears nice and features a good grip also. the sensation on the hands is satisfying too. However, the build is questionable because it features a plastic frame surrounding it which could cause some durability issues within the end of the day.

Additionally, the buttons have a really plasticky feel thereto and don’t give that satisfactory feedback. Moreover, the camera bump at the rear may be a pretty large one which may get scratched if not taken care of, so make certain to slap during a good phone case. You get one inside the box too which could work for a couple of months. Mine is functioning pretty much till now.

Overall, there’s nothing much to travel on about the planning. there’s nothing great about it yet it’s great either. as compared, I feel the Samsung Galaxy A71 steals V19’s thunder with its attractiveness. Vivo V19 Review

  • 6.44-inch E3 Super AMOLED panel
  • 1200 nits brightness (max); HDR10

But what can certainly be labelled good on this device is its display.

It is a 6.44-inch AMOLED panel with excellent quality. and therefore the neatest thing about it’s that it can get really really bright. Being an AMOLED display, it’s the Always-on Display and dark mode too. About the latter, Vivo doesn’t make the whole theme dark. It’s partially dark only unlike what Samsung does. So, I might say I prefer Samsung’s implementation better.

Keeping the nitpicking aside, you actually get an honest quality panel within the V19 and anyone who requires an honest display experience, will definitely like V19’s display.

One thing, however, is that the twin punch holes are quite weird looking and slightly bigger also. and since it’s on the proper side making the notifications push towards the left, it quite makes me have an OCD. But again, to every their own I assume.

While we are talking about the display, let’s mention its in-display fingerprint sensor too. it’s really fast, accurate, and only your hands get wet, it fails to acknowledge your print. Otherwise, I’ve no complaints about it. In fact, I prefer it over the A71’s scanner that’s a tad bit slow to my liking.

  • Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 712 SoC (10nm)
  • 8GB RAM with either 128 or 256GB of expandable internal storage

Alright, let’s move to the performance side of things. As I said within the beginning, Vivo has been holding back for a few reasons. And one among the explanations is that the choice of the chipset.

Vivo V19 Display, Vivo V19 Price, Vivo V19, Vivo V19 Performance, Vivo V19 Review, Vivo V19 Camera, Vivo V19 Design, Vivo V19 battery, Vivo V19 Gaming

It features Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 712, which is employed on phones half the worth. So performance-wise, the V19 seems utterly overpriced, especially considering that its competitors have far better chipset offerings.

Talking about the real-life performance, the SD 712 remains an honest chipset. Hence, when doing normal tasks like browsing the web, using WhatsApp, and therefore the likes, you won’t feel a touch of lag in it. Similarly, multitasking isn’t dragged either, all because of the onboard 8GB RAM

Gaming performance, however, has exceeded my expectations because Vivo has optimized the favoured games like PUBG and COD to run well. So, both the A71 and therefore the V19 have a really similar gaming performance. Vivo V19 Review

The highest you’ll continue both the phones in PUBG is HD graphics and High frame rates and up to ultra-frame rates once you set the graphics to smooth or balanced. I got an honest 40fps lag-free experience in smooth graphics and ultra-frame rate on the Vivo V19.

However, with the superior Adreno 618 GPU of the SD 730, you’ll definitely notice better graphics quality on the A71, as compared to Vivo V19.

In my review time with the Vivo V19, I also found the dedicated ultra-game mode to be useful, which made for an immersive gaming experience. Additionally, there’s also a feature within the game mode that helps you train to differentiate which side the footsteps are approaching or which side gunshots are being fired from, etc. So, if you’re a PUBG player, you would possibly like what Vivo is offering here.

Similarly, other games like COD run considerably well too. Both the A71 and Vivo V19 can go up to “Very High” settings and run equally well. In terms of graphics, once more, the Galaxy A71 does a far better job. The V19 on the opposite hand looks a touch over-sharpened.

Overall, I prefer what Vivo has through with the sport mode and optimization in certain games to match the competition. But I cannot help but think that this optimization would are such a lot better if the corporate had opted for a rather better chipset. that might have given Vivo such a foothold in performance.

  • Quad-cameras at the back
  • (48MP primary, 8MP ultrawide, 2MP macro, 2MP depth)
  • Dual front camera (32MP primary, 8MP ultrawide)

Okay, let’s get to the camera performance of the device. There’s a quad-camera at the rear that comprises of a 48MP primary camera, the 8MP ultra-wide lens, a 2MP depth, and a 2MP macro lens. At the front, there’s a 32MP primary and an 8MP secondary ultra-wide-angle lens.

Normal Images

About the performance of the first back camera, I might say it’s specialized, actually nearly as good because of the A71. What’s different within the pictures among the 2 is that the colour tone as Vivo seems to possess a yellow tone in its images.

Also, repeatedly, it tends to saturate the pictures a touch bit more, but most of the time you get good results. Take the instance of a number of these samples I shot.

They have an honest dynamic range, pleasing colours, and ample details, all of which work together to offer us nice pictures.

Wideangle Images

Ultra-wide-angle images are satisfactory too.

They are almost on par with the A71 apart from the marginally better colours and a wider field of view on the A71. Vivo V19 Review

Portrait Images

Even portraits from the V19 are nice. the topic focus is adequate thereon a bit like the A71. It’s just that the A71 manages to take care of colours within the background a touch better. But Vivo is extremely on the brink of the competition too.

Plus what you get in vivo are various lighting effects that you simply can apply to form your portraits look even better. I even put up an image on my Instagram account a couple of days ago using the monochrome background effect.

I think it looked really cool. Likewise, if you’re someone who likes to edit their pictures tons, there are various inbuilt filters and effects too.

Selfie Images

Even selfies from the V19 are good-looking but I found them to be beautified by touch, even within the normal mode. And despite your skin looking a touch smoothened, the selfies look pleasing nonetheless.

However, the Galaxy A71 selfies do a far better task in maintaining the background exposure. Whereas as you’ll see, the V19 seems to solely specialise in the topic only.

The quality of the V19 selfie is on par with the A71 though. You get tons of filters and sticker options too if you’re into that sort of stuff.

Nighttime Images

Vivo V19 also features a dedicated night mode. It does brighten up the pictures, but the method generates tons of grains.

Similarly, light flares also get a touch overblown when using Night Mode. However, at the top of the day, it’s a reasonably decent implementation I’d say. Vivo V19 Review

For videos, you get the choices to increase to 4k 30fps. However, the 4k videos also because the 1080P 60fps aren’t stable. Hence, the EIS works only in 1080P 30fps videos. the colours and details look good on all the resolutions though. you furthermore may have something called an ultra-steady mode that stabilizes your videos a touch, but that option is merely there within the 1080p 30 fps option.

Overall, the cameras on the V19 have good performance. However, given the worth, it might are such a lot better, if the corporate had given a zoom lens and Optical image stabilization rather than the macro lens here because the macro lens hardly performs well.

Camera UI

On a special note, one complaint I even have with Vivo is that the camera UI may be a bit tousled here. for somebody who isn’t won’t to this interface, it can get a touch difficult to work. as an example, you’ve got to click on the lens choice to shoot wide-angle images and if you would like to urge back to the traditional model, you’ve got to cross it which I feel maybe a bit more complicated. Similarly, there are two options for clicking portrait images which might be made simpler.

And it’s not just the camera UI, the general interface of Funtouch OS isn’t perfect. for instance, you’ve got to tug down the taskbar twice to urge to settings and as mentioned earlier dark mode isn’t “fully dark”.

But, Vivo has finally listened to complaints and put the fast toggle menu on the highest. and therefore the company’s digital assistant Jovi has been refined too. I actually just like the Smart Scene feature of it which provides you with a number of your health and usage stats like reminders to drink water or information on what proportion time you continuously use your phone, etc.

In the future, I hope Vivo focuses on the usability aspect of its UI more and optimizes better for its users to urge a seamless experience. Vivo V19 Review

Battery & Audio

  • 4500mAh with 33W Vivo FlashCharge 2.0
  • 3.5mm headphone jack, single bottom-firing speaker

Okay, now let’s get to its battery-life. It’s got an enormous 4,500 mAh battery that’s very enduring.

During my review period, the Vivo V19 gave me quite a day’s backup on medium usage. This consisted of some gaming, tons of social media, and making calls and chatting. So, I might rate the battery life with 8.5/10 points, which I concede to be good.

Vivo V19 Display, Vivo V19 Price, Vivo V19, Vivo V19 Performance, Vivo V19 Review, Vivo V19 Camera, Vivo V19 Design, Vivo V19 battery, Vivo V19 Gaming

Charging is pretty fast here too. The phone comes with a 33- watt charger within the box that gets the battery full in slightly over one hour which is impressive. and therefore the phone features a good standby time too with the Always-on Display on. The A71 on the opposite hand, or maybe my primary phone, the S20 doesn’t give me such good standby time. So, I need to say that Vivo has done an honest job here. Vivo V19 Review

Speaker Performance

I also just like the speakers on the V19. it’s a really balanced audio output. But sadly, it’s not as loud because of the A71. The A71 also features a better dynamic range than the V19.

Vivo V19 Review: Pros & Cons

  • Vibrant AMOLED display with a fast optical fingerprint scanner
  • Optimized gaming performance with some nifty features
  • Great cameras alongside a few fun feature like AR stickers
  • Decent battery life and 33W fast charging

  • Not a great value for money
  • Chipset selection should’ve been a lot better
  • Funtouch OS is still a little drag to get around

Summing up, I feel we all know what’s stopping the V19 to be really competitive within the market, it’s the selection of the chipset. And as long as Vivo keeps on holding back in it, it’ll be difficult recommending it over the others within the market. Vivo V19 Review

If only Vivo had given the Snapdragon 730G, it might add up to a minimum of keeping it within the list among the simplest. That’s because the Vivo V19 really does give tough competition in aspects like design, display, cameras, and battery among other things as we acknowledged in our review.

So, within the current scenario, it really seems like Vivo must intensify a touch bit. Otherwise, with OnePlus targeting this very price segment and therefore the battle of Realme and Redmi phones, the market looks rather difficult for Vivo phones.
