Vivo V19 design

The Vivo V17 Pro was the primary smartphone with a dual-camera pop-up module for selfies, and therefore the Vivo V19 is that the first from Vivo to sport a dual-camera hole-punch setup. The front cameras are within the top right corner of the display. The phone is tall and you will not be ready to reach the highest of the display while holding it in one hand.

Vivo has positioned the facility and volume buttons on the proper side of the device, and these are easy to succeed in . The left side only has the SIM tray. The frame of the Vivo V19 feels plasticky. At rock bottom , there is a USB Type-C port, 3.5mm headphone jack, and loudspeaker grille, along side the first microphone. At the highest , it only features a secondary microphone.

We found the Vivo V19 to be a touch thick. the rear of the phone is formed of Corning Gorilla Glass 6 which should handle day-to-day usage quite well. Vivo has curved the edges which makes it easy to grip the V19. The camera module at the rear sports four cameras and reminds us of the iQoo 3 (Review), which we recently reviewed. The Vivo V19 is out there in two finishes, Mystic Silver and Piano Black. We had a Mystic Silver unit for this review. We found the rear panel to be a fingerprint magnet because it picked up smudges very easily. Vivo does ship a transparent case within the box, and that we recommend that you simply use it with this device.

The Vivo V19 weighs 186.5g and packs during a 4,500mAh battery. Vivo also ships a 33W fast charger within the box.

Vivo V19 software

The Vivo V19 sports a 6.44-inch AMOLED display with a full-HD+ resolution. The display looks crisp and gets bright even when outdoors. you’ll tweak the display colour mode also because the colour temperature.

Powering the Vivo V19 is that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 712 SoC, which can raise some eyebrows. This processor is usually found in smartphones priced at around Rs. 15,000 and that we were surprised to ascertain the Vivo V19 using it. The Snapdragon 712 is an octa-core chip supported a 10nm process. it’s six Kryo 360 Silver cores clocked at 1.7GHz and two high-performance cores clocked at 2.3GHz. For graphics, it’s the Adreno 616 GPU. Vivo says it’s used copper tube liquid cooling for the Vivo V19 to stay thermals in restraint .

The Vivo V19 gets 8GB of RAM and comes in 128GB and 256GB storage options. the bottom variant is priced at Rs. 40,000 whereas the upper variant is priced at Rs. 31,990 in India. We had the 256GB version for this review.

Connectivity options for the Vivo V19 include Bluetooth 5, dual-band Wi-Fi, four satellite navigation systems, and 4G also as VoLTE. It lacks NFC connectivity and FM Radio.

On the software front, the Vivo V19 runs Funtouch OS 10 on top of Android 10, and our unit was running the April security patch. this is often the newest version of FunTouch OS and it’s an enormous improvement over previous ones because it finally fixes the fast toggle issue we always reported, You not need to swipe up from rock bottom to access the fast toggles on the device; you’ll just swipe down from the notification shade to access them. This has been standard with most Android smartphones, but Vivo used an iOS-style swipe up earlier which was confusing. We are glad this has been changed.

There is no app drawer, and every one the app icons are available directly on the homescreen. Swiping right from the homescreen will take you to the Smart Launcher’s shortcuts. You get tons of customisation options on the Vivo V19. you’ll swap the normal three-button navigation layout for swipe-based gesture navigation. you’ll also change animations for charging, fingerprint and face recognition, and standby/wake, among other things. It also gets Digital Wellbeing and parental controls.

The Vivo V19 comes with a good amount of bloatware preinstalled. Apps on the device include Helo, Dailyhunt, Opera, Amazon Shopping, Flipkart, and Facebook. a couple of of those apps are capable of generating spammy notifications when launched, so we recommend that you simply uninstall those you will not use. The Vivo V19 also features a Motorbike mode, during which the phone can reject calls and automatically send a message to the caller.

Vivo V19 performance and battery life

The Vivo V19 delivers reasonable performance and that we never noticed any lag or stutter while using the smartphone. Having 8GB of RAM made multitasking a breeze. We could switch between different apps and infrequently had to attend for the device to reload the complete app. However, phones like the Realme X2 Pro (Review) and therefore the Redmi K20 Pro (Review) feel faster when loading apps, which could flow from to the selection of an older processor during this model.

We ran a few of benchmarks on the Vivo V19 to ascertain how it fares compared to other smartphones in its price segment. In Geekbench 5’s single-core and multi-core tests, the Vivo V19 scored 416 and 1,596 respectively. In PCMark Work 2.0, it managed to attain 6,983 points. These are tons less than the many phones like the Realme X2 Pro, which scored 12,226 in PC Mark Work 2.0. The Vivo V19 scored 13fps and 24fps in GFXBench’s Car Chase and Manhattan 3.1 graphics tests respectively.

We played PUBG Mobile on the Vivo V19, and it defaulted to the high settings by default. The frame rate was set to High and therefore the graphics set to HD. We played a couple of rounds and didn’t notice any lag, although there was occasional stutter. We played one round for quarter-hour and noticed a 4-percent battery drop which was above we might have liked. The phone got slightly consider the touch but nothing alarming.

The Vivo V19 packs a 4,500mAh battery and delivers good battery life. The Snapdragon 712 SoC is not powerful but it’s efficient. We managed to urge a few day and a half worth of use out of the battery in one charging cycle. Even in our HD video loop test, the V19 managed to clock 18 hours and half-hour which may be a good score. Charging is quick, and therefore the phone managed to charge to 44 percent in half-hour and 83 percent in an hour.

Vivo V19 cameras

Like just about every other smartphone launching in 2020, the V19 packs a quad-camera setup at the rear . This consists of a 48-megapixel primary camera with an f/1.79 aperture, an 8-megapixel wide-angle-camera with an f/2.2 aperture, a 2-megapixel macro camera, and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. there’s a dual-LED flash next to the sensors. On the front of the phone, there is a 32-megapixel primary camera and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle secondary shooter.

Vivo V19 Performance

The camera app hasn’t changed much and is analogous to what we’ve seen on Vivo phones within the past. aside from the regular photo and video modes, it’s Night, Portrait, Jovi Vision, and 48-megapixel modes. It also has buttons to modify between the various cameras on the device.

The Vivo V19 was quick to focus, and therefore the AI could detect what we were shooting. In daylight, the Vivo V19 managed an honest shot with ample detail. Objects at a distance were visible on zooming in. Shots crazy the wide-angle camera lacked detail. The resultant image had a wider field of view but there was barrel distortion.

Close-ups were also good, and therefore the refore the device managed natural-looking depth between the topic and the background. you’ll also switch to Bokeh mode which allows you to set the extent of blur before you’re taking an attempt . We found photos shot during this mode were hit-or-miss and a few looked artificial. The macro camera allows you to take super close-ups of a topic , but the output is restricted to 2-megapixels only.

You can also shoot at the complete 48-megapixel resolution which ends up in much larger files. the ultimate output allows you to concentrate quite bit but the small print aren’t great. We also noticed some artefacts on zooming in. Regular photos have better dynamic range because the V19 also applies HDR when not using the sensor’s full resolution.

The portrait mode adds beautification and you are doing get the choice to tweak or disable this before taking an attempt . The default settings do soften skin tones quite bit so we preferred turning this off. you’ll need to select Bokeh within the lens setting because the phone doesn’t add this effect by default. However it does allow you to select the extent of blur before taking an attempt . We found edge detection to be good in daylight.

Vivo V19 Front Camera

Vivo has also enabled beautification by default for selfies on the V19. It can suggest different poses. In favourable light, the Vivo V19 is capable of delivering some excellent selfies that are sharp and detailed even after zooming in. The wide-angle front camera didn’t deliver an equivalent quite detail because the primary sensor. There was a clear drop by photo quality, and shots didn’t appear crisp. We also noticed a small colour temperature shift during a few photos. There are wide-angle corrections in situ which prevent warping. A feature called Aura Light turns the whole screen white with an oval cutout for your face. Vivo told Gadgets 360 that it helps you get a preview of an attempt before taking it, and also helps improve selfies in low-light conditions.

In low light, there’s a drop by the general image quality. The Vivo V19 keeps noise in check but the output is slightly grainy. With Night mode enabled, the Vivo V19 takes multiple exposures and stitches them together. it’s a touch slow and forces you to carry the camera still. These photos were brighter and objects within the shadows were more recognisable

Vivo V19 Back Camera

Video recording tops out at 4K for the first rear camera and 1080p for the most selfie shooter. Footage shot at 1080p was stabilised but not 4K video. there’s an ultra-stable mode also that uses the first camera and crops the frame to stabilise footage, even in low light. It’s even available with the front camera, but doesn’t work also . Low-light video had decent quality but a shimmer effect was visible.
